The Independent Study and Mentorship program is a class offered to juniors and seniors that allows students to conduct a year-long study that interests them. There is a rigorous application and interview process that students have to go through in order to get into the program. The program allows students to take learning into their own hands according to their topic of study. Students gain a first-hand experience in field of interest by conducting informational interviews with professions and ultimately choosing a mentor to shadow within those 5 or more interviews. At the end of the first semester students create an original work that showcases what they have learned through conducting research. At the end of the year, there is a final presentation that explains the students journey through the program as long as their original work. The ISM program helps students develop valuable professional and communication skills that can be carried on into the college and professional world.
